Rehoboth Mall, Rehoboth Beach, DE

REHOBOTH MALL
18908 REHOBOTH MALL BLVD
REHOBOTH BEACH, DE

If you haven't already read about my experience exploring the Kmart in Rehoboth Beach, I highly suggest that you go do that now! It gives a bit of background to the competitive nature of the Rehoboth Beach Resort.

Now getting into the mall itself...

The Rehoboth Mall was one of the first malls to open in the Rehoboth area, and to this day remains the only indoor mall of the area. Quickly other development such as the Rehoboth Outlets (Now owned by Tanger Outlets and consists of three separate outlet centers along DE-1). In the early days of the mall, a Roses department store was the main anchor. Currently the nearest Roses store is 16 miles away in Millsboro, DE.

BENNY'S HOME & AUTO STORES - COMPLETE DIRECTORY

So, if you’ve been following BrandHistoryUSA for a while, you’ve probably seen my few articles on Benny’s Home and Auto Stores, which is a small chain of New England-based Home and Auto Stores.

After Benny's closed all of their stores at the end of 2017, I thought that I’d take things to the next level. Since Benny’s quite unceremoniously took their store locator offline and it’s almost impossible to compile a complete list of stores based off of the sporadic news articles on the dying chain, I thought that I’d assemble my own.

BENNY’S HOME AND AUTO
GROTON, CONN
65 PLAZA COURT

CLOSED SEPTEMBER 2017

The Benny’s Home and Auto Stores brand was a chain of hardware stores that dominated the New England hardware store market ever since the first Benny’s opened its doors in November 1924 in Providence, Rhode Island.

39 years later, in 1963, Benny’s Groton location opened its doors, quickly becoming the chain’s flagship store.

As it stands, the Groton Benny’s is located in the Groton Shopping Plaza, alongside a strip of small, independent barber shops, electronic stores, and other locally owned shops.
Benny’s thrived in an era where other brick-and-mortar stores such as Wal-Mart was present, likely a combination of the chain’s notoriety for carrying hard-to-find items alongside its regional charm.

Big Kmart, Rehoboth Beach, DE

BIG KMART
STORE #7725
REHOBOTH BEACH, DE
RENOVATED 2017
19563 COASTAL HWY
REHOBOTH BEACH, DE

I'm sure for many of you seeing a Kmart store
on here is no big surprise. In recent years, the national chain has been on a decline and quite unsuccessfully has tried to make a comeback

This store in Rehoboth Beach, DE opened sometime in the 1990s and was one of Kmart's branded "Big K" stores. Larger than traditional Kmart stores, the "Big K" stores are more comparable to Walmart stores, featuring extensive sections of clothing, food, sporting equipment, electronics, and health & beauty supplies.
