So this week we have a bit of a shorter article for you guys.
I was up in Vernon, CT going to photograph a Kmart, and I found this empty Payless ShoeSource just down the road. It is located within the Tri-City plaza, which used to house an Ames (now Price Chopper).
Despite closing almost a year ago, a prominent labelscar is still visible on the building.
During the store's final week, Google Street View actually went by, so I have a pretty cool shot of the store before it was closing for good. Take a look at how faded the sign looks
Looking inside, you can see the place has been pretty well gutted. It was your standard Payless store in a strip mall, and never got an update with the newer-style logo. Just as a side note, I've always noticed that the Payless locations inside of larger, indoor shopping malls typically get the newer logo, and the strip mall locations never get an update.
Despite surviving Payless' initial wave of closures, which shuttered 400 stores, this store's closure was announced shortly after.
